Jewish Democrats Decry Trump’s Hypocrisy on Anti-Semitism
WASHINGTON – In response to reports that President Trump will sign an executive order on anti-Semitism tomorrow, Jewish Democratic Council of America Executive Director Halie Soifer released the following statement:
“It is the height of hypocrisy for President Trump to sign an executive order (EO) that he claims will combat anti-Semitism. It’s also insulting that the signing of this EO is timed to correspond with the White House Hanukkah parties, to which only Republican members of Congress were invited.
“President Trump is more interested in symbolic gestures that politicize Israel and use Jews as political pawns than actually doing something meaningful to ensure our security and that of Israel. The timing of this signing reveals this is a PR stunt, plain and simple.
“If President Trump truly wanted to address the scourge of anti-Semitism he helped to create, he would accept responsibility for his role emboldening white nationalism, perpetuating anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, and repeating stereotypes that have led to violence targeting Jews. Instead, President Trump continues to view Israel and anti-Semitism solely through a political lens, which he attempts to use to his political advantage.
“Anti-Semitism must be fought in all of its forms, wherever it may emerge, including on college campuses. If Republicans truly cared about combating anti-Semitism, they would also recognize and respond to the scourge of hatred perpetuated by the President of the United States.”
