JDCA statement on Senate letter to President Trump
On January 26, a bipartisan group of Senators wrote a letter to President Donald Trump. The letter commemorates the observance of International Holocaust Remembrance Day and urges the President to act on combating the rise of anti-Semitism in America. On the eve of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the JDCA praises Senators Menendez and Rubio, and the 13 others Democrat and Republican signatories, for speaking out against the rise of hatred and violence towards Jews in our country.
We echo their calls for the president to make an appointment for the congressionally mandated position of Special Envoy to Combat Anti-Semitism at the State Department, which has been vacant for much of the Trump presidency. The United States government must take every opportunity to condemn anti-Semitism and to protect their Jewish citizens from violence and discrimination.
We thank Senators Menendez and Rubio for their leadership in protecting Jewish Americans, as well as the 13 other Senators who signed the letter to President Trump: Senators Cory Booker (D-NJ); Ben Cardin (D-MD); Robert Casey (D-PA); Chris Coons (D-DE); John Cornyn (R-TX); Joe Donnelly (D-IN); Cory Gardner (R-CO); Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY); Jerry Moran (R-KA); Thom Tillis (R-NC); Roger Wicker (R-MS); Ron Wyden (D-OR); and Todd Young (R-IN).
