JDCA Responds to Congresswoman Nita Lowey’s Retirement News
WASHINGTON — The Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) today responded to the news that New York Congresswoman Nita Lowey would not seek re-election. JDCA Executive Director Halie Soifer issued the following statement:
“For the past three decades, Chairwoman Nita Lowey has proudly represented her constituents, which include a considerable number of Jewish Democrats. For 31 years, she has given voice to our values in Congress, including through her steadfast support of Israel. As the first woman to chair the Appropriations Committee, she has played a critical role in funding the priorities of American taxpayers and opposing President Trump’s irresponsible budget, including his unnecessary border wall. Nita Lowey epitomizes bold and courageous leadership, and her wisdom and experience will be deeply missed in Congress when she retires. In the meantime, we look forward to working with her to further our shared values in the next year.”
