JDCA Launches National Campaign to Elect Democrats

February 14, 2024

Following Tom Suozzi’s critical victory in NY-3, the national Jewish organization is committed to engaging in key races where Jewish voters will have an impact

WASHINGTON – The Jewish vote was instrumental in securing victory for Democrat Rep. Tom Suozzi in the NY-3 special election, according to the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA). With Jewish voters constituting approximately 11% of the electorate in NY-3, JDCA and JDCA PAC mobilized nearly 80,000 voters – all Jewish voters in the district – with digital ads seen more than 4.6 million times, print ads in Jewish papers, and direct voter engagement by phone and text. In the end, Tom Suozzi won by approximately 13,000 votes.

Following this win, JDCA PAC announced that it will invest $1.5 million mobilizing Jewish voters in swing districts and battleground states to re-elect President Biden, take back the House, and defend the Senate Democratic majority.

Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) CEO Halie Soifer said, “Tom Suozzi’s victory is a bellwether for November, demonstrating that Jewish American voters will play a key role securing Democratic wins. With a closely divided electorate, Democrat Tom Suozzi won because Americans reject do-nothing Republicans threatening our democracy and reproductive rights. Jewish voters, who constitute more than 10% of this district, played a key role flipping NY-3 from red to blue, and they’ll continue to play a key role in districts and states that will determine the outcome of the presidential, Senate, and House elections. Jewish Dems understand what’s at stake in November and are investing substantial resources to elect Democrats who share our values and defeat extremist MAGA Republicans.”

The results of this special election serve as a case study for the effectiveness of JDCA’s strategy exclusively targeting Jewish voters in close elections, in districts and states where the Jewish vote can make the difference for Democrats. In NY-3, JDCA and JDCA PAC:

  • Endorsed Tom Suozzi in December;
  • Engaged more than 79,000 Jewish voters in the district;
  • Reached Jewish voters in the district more than 4.6 million times with digital and print advertising – including this video ad and these print ads – over a matter of weeks;
  • Hosted phone banks with hundreds of JDCA volunteers and leading Democrats including Reps. Torres, Goldman, and Stevens, as well as former Rep. Steve Israel (NY-3), to get out the vote ahead of Election Day; and
  • Contacted more than 23,000 voters via phone and text.
