Join Rep. Ritchie Torres on Tuesday to flip a House seat blue

January 19, 2024

Dear Friends,

The 2024 elections will decide the future of American democracy and abortion rights. It will determine whether MAGA extremists set policies impacting our freedoms, rights, and democracy, or whether Democrats led by President Biden continue to lead consistent with our values. Since 2023, the GOP has controlled the House, but their slim majority is dwindling, and Democrats can take back the House in November. A special election in NY-3 to replace Republican fraud George Santos will be held on February 13 — it’s the first step toward flipping the House from red to blue.

Watch this video and keep reading to understand why the NY-3 special election matters. Join us in supporting Democratic candidate Tom Suozzi by getting out the Jewish vote in NY-3, and join Rep. Ritchie Torres for a JDCA virtual phone bank on Tuesday, January 23, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. ET. Also join us on Wednesday, January 24, from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. ET for our next community conversation on Israel with experts Michael Koplow of the Israel Policy Forum and David Makovsky of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. 1. TAKING BACK THE HOUSE IN NOVEMBERRepublicans’ House majority has steadily dwindled for the past year. Flipping NY-3 from red to blue on February 13 reduces the Republican majority to just a handful of votes, bringing Democrats one seat closer to taking back control of the House in November.

2. SHRINKING REPUBLICANS’ HOUSE MAJORITY NOWMAGA Republican leadership in the House has been a disaster — even with the majority, they have failed to deliver for the American people. Replacing “Jew-ish” former Congressman George Santos with Democrat Tom Suozzi makes it even harder for Republicans to advance their dangerous agenda in the House. If we can flip NY-3 from red to blue, Republicans can only afford to lose one or two votes in order to pass legislation.

3. TOM SUOZZI SHARES OUR VALUESJDCA endorsed Democrat Tom Suozzi because he has the experience to lead and shares our values. As a former member of Congress, Suozzi has a strong record on issues of importance to Jewish voters, including abortion, democracy, Israel, and antisemitism. He is a proven ally of the Jewish community, friend of Israel, and shares our values.

4. THE JEWISH VOTE CAN MAKE THE DIFFERENCEBy JDCA’s estimate, this is the fourth largest Jewish House district in the country. Approximately 11% of the voting population of NY-3 is Jewish, the vast majority of whom are Democrats. We know the Jewish electorate can make a critical difference for Tom Suozzi.

JDCA is hosting phone banks every Tuesday to call Jewish voters in NY-3. Sign up to join us on January 23 with Rep. Ritchie Torres.

Please join JDCA next Wednesday, January 24, at 12:00 p.m. ET/9:00 a.m. PT for our next community conversation on the crisis in Israel and Gaza and what comes next. Since Hamas’s horrific attack on October 7, we have held ten events focused on Israel with more than 6,000 participants. This conversation will feature experts Michael Koplow, Chief Policy Officer at Israel Policy Forum, and David Makovsky, Ziegler Distinguished Fellow at The Washington Institute for Near East Policy, and will focus on what comes next in Israel and Gaza.

Thank you for your partnership and support of JDCA.
