Jewish Voters made the difference in NY-16

June 26, 2024

We’re thrilled with George Latimer’s overwhelming victory in the NY-16 Democratic primary. JDCA was proud to endorse him earlier this year and to mobilize volunteers across the country to make nearly 25,000 direct Jewish voter contacts in this race.

Thanks to everyone who joined JDCA PAC’s direct voter engagement efforts in NY-16. The Jewish vote made the difference in this race, which was decided by approximately 13,000 votes. We hope you’ll continue to support and join our Jewish voter mobilization campaign between now and Election Day. We also hope you’ll continue to support JDCA PAC so we can further expand our work around the country to elect Democratic candidates who share our values, like George Latimer.

The NY-16 Democratic primary demonstrated the critical role that Jewish voters have on the outcome of elections. It also demonstrated that Jamaal Bowman was out of step with the Democratic Party, his constituents, and Jewish voters, and he lost his seat in Congress as a result.

With the Jewish vote constituting 13 percent of the electorate in NY-16, Jewish voters overwhelmingly supported George Latimer and helped to unseat Jamaal Bowman. Three out of four Jewish voters we contacted indicated their support for Latimer in the lead-up to the election. Jewish voters had a similarly large electoral impact in NY-3, an 11 percent Jewish district that flipped from red to blue in February, electing Rep. Tom Suozzi with our strong support.

JDCA only supports Democrats, but we don’t support all Democrats – we support those who align with our values. Rising antisemitism, the horrific attacks perpetrated by Hamas, and Republican threats to our democracy and reproductive rights make electing candidates who share our Jewish values more important than ever before. George Latimer not only shares the values of Jewish American voters, but he also brings decades of experience to NY-16. We look forward to working with him in Congress to advance our shared interests and working with all of you to continue electing Democrats who share our values.

Thank you for your partnership and support.

Together, we can and will continue to make the difference in this election.

Thank you,
