Jewish Dems Support House Resolution Condemning Anti-Semitism and Other Forms of Intolerance

March 7, 2019

WASHINGTON — The Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) supports the resolution to be voted on in the House of Representatives condemning anti-Semitism and other forms of intolerance. JDCA’s Chairman, former Congressman Ron Klein, issued the following statement:

“We support this strong denunciation of anti-Semitism and join the House in rejecting all forms of intolerance and hatred. Anti-Semitism does not emerge in a vacuum. It is an indication of larger trends of intolerance in society, and should be combated in conjunction with other forms of discrimination.

This resolution sends a strong message that anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, racism and other forms of bigotry are unacceptable and fundamentally anti-American. Use of hateful or discriminatory rhetoric by members of Congress is contradictory to our values and must come to an end. While we accept legitimate political debate on Israel, such debate must exclude prejudicial attitudes, stereotypes and other forms of anti-Semitic tropes targeting Jews.

This is now the third time in three months that the 116th Congress will vote to condemn anti-Semitism. The first condemnation, in January, was of white supremacy. The second condemnation, in February, affirmed that combating anti-Semitism is in the national security interest of the United States. This third condemnation both defines and condemns various forms of anti-Semitism and other forms of religious discrimination.

We support all of these efforts, and applaud Democrats for their leadership on this vitally important issue.”
