Jewish Dems Condemn Trump’s Latest Sabotage of Obamacare

July 9, 2018

The Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) on Monday criticized the Trump administration’s decision to freeze payments under the Affordable Care Act’s risk assessment program. Halie Soifer, JDCA’s Executive Director, issued the following statement:

“The Trump administration has taken yet another egregious step to undermine access to affordable health care for millions of Americans . The Affordable Care Act (ACA) risk assessment program was designed to encourage coverage for sick and at-risk patients by redistributing funds from health care plans with low-risk enrollees. By freezing payments under the risk assessment program, the Trump administration has added greater uncertainty to the marketplace, jeopardized coverage for those most in need, and increased the financial burden for individuals, families, and small businesses. Access to affordable health care should be a right for all, not a privilege for those who can afford it. With this freeze, President Trump has demonstrated once again that he would rather side with insurers than work to improve our nation’s health care system. This is yet another step in the president’s unconscionable effort to undermine the ACA and jeopardize the lives of Americans in order to suit his narrow political agenda, and Jewish Democrats condemn this action in the strongest terms.”
