WASHINGTON — In response to House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s comments on the level of support for Israel in the Democratic party, Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) Executive Director Halie Soifer said the following:
“We strongly disagree with Minority Leader McCarthy’s false assertion regarding Democrats’ support for Israel. Democrats remain overwhelmingly pro-Israel, just as Jewish voters remain overwhelmingly Democratic. In the 116th Congress, there has been no diminishing of bipartisan support of Israel, and we encourage anyone who asserts otherwise to look at recent votes in the House. We are pleased that support of the U.S.-Israel relationship remains bipartisan, and reject ongoing Republican attempts to politicize it. Finally, we support the numerous members of Congress visiting Israel this year, and believe these experiences will only deepen their understanding of the ties between our two countries.”
