Israeli President Herzog’s address to a joint session of Congress

July 20, 2023

Yesterday, JDCA leaders were honored to attend Israeli President Isaac Herzog’s address to a joint session of Congress. In his speech, President Herzog discussed the deep history of U.S.-Israel ties, our mutually beneficial bilateral relationship, shared security threats, and the values that bind us, including democracy. He also praised the unwavering commitment of President Biden and Vice President Harris to the U.S.-Israel relationship, as well as their efforts to combat antisemitism. The reception among members of Congress to President Herzog’s speech was overwhelmingly positive and bipartisan. We were thrilled to note the unified, numerous standing ovations to President Herzog’s powerful speech. For more, check out our short video with three key takeaways from the address.

We asked one of the leading Jewish Democrats in the House, Congressman Jerry Nadler (NY-12), for his reaction to President Herzog’s address. Read below.

STATEMENT PRIOR TO HERZOG’S ARRIVAL

Earlier this week, we released a statement welcoming President Herzog. In addition, we noted that “we emphatically reject the notion that Israel is a racist state and agree with Democratic leadership’s rejection of this falsehood.” Read our full statement.
