Giving voice to our values

March 29, 2019

Friends,

This week, the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) remained on the frontlines of the national conversation regarding issues of importance to American Jews.

First, we spoke at AIPAC Policy Conference, where Executive Director Halie Soifer – just named a “political powerhouse” by the Detroit Jewish News – gave voice to our values as Jewish Democrats. Second, Halie appeared on Fox News to underscore that support for the U.S.-Israel relationship has been – and should remain – bipartisan. Third, we pushed back against the false narrative of an alleged “boycott” of AIPAC by 2020 Democratic candidates.

Finally, JDCA was one of the only voices condemning Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) for invoking Mein Kampf on the House floor and creating an offensive, anti-Semitic parallel between Nazis and Democrats. Haven’t heard of this unconscionable incident that occurred four days ago in Congress? That’s because JDCA and ADL are the only organizations far calling for Rep. Brooks to apologize for his remarks.

Hard to believe that a member of Congress could call an entire party Nazis and invoke Hitler’s teachings on the House floor? We’re shocked too, but here’s the video, which Rep. Brooks himself proudly posted on his YouTube channel.

Hard to believe that there’s been NO response to this incident among Republicans, the Republican Jewish Coalition, or others? We’re calling it out for what it is – blatant hypocrisy of Republicans, who are quick to point out anti-Semitism when it occurs on the Democratic side of the aisle, but are silent when one of their own engages in such vile behavior. JDCA is committed to calling out anti-Semitism wherever and whenever it occurs.

Join us in calling for Rep. Brooks to apologize by signing our petition, and read more on this incident in an op-ed from JDCA adviser Steve Sheffey. If you share our view that we must continue to give voice to our values, please support JDCA today. Read on to learn more.

Mein Kampf on the House floor?

JDCA joined the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) in calling for Republican Congressman Mo Brooks to apologize for his deeply offensive comparison of Democrats to Nazis. On March 25, Rep. Brooks invoked Hitler’s vitriolic and dangerous words, taken straight from Mein Kampf, on the House floor in an attempt to attack Democrats for their interest in the findings of the Mueller Report.

JDCA also condemned Republican Congressman Louie Gohmert for defending Rep. Brooks’ behavior. Representative Brooks did not vote for the strong anti-Semitism resolution House Democrats passed earlier this month because, in his words, the resolution showed the House “cares about virtually everyone except Christians and Caucasians.” Join us in calling on Rep. Brooks to apologize for his dangerous and anti-Semitic remarks invoking Mein Kampf on the House floor.

So much happens every week, and JDCA is quoted nearly every day in the national, international, and Jewish news. Check out the press coverage here and remain informed in real-time by following JDCA on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Our work is not possible without your support, and we thank you for standing with JDCA as we fight for socially progressive, pro-Israel, and Jewish values.
