Event Today at Noon: Nine Years Since Charlottesville
Today marks nine years since neo-Nazis marched in Charlottesville, VA, wielding tiki torches, chanting, “Jews will not replace us,” and killing Heather Heyer, an innocent woman who stood up to the hatred. President Trump responded by making excuses for the extremists and by equating the masked marchers with peaceful counter-protesters, stating there were “very fine people on both sides.”
We knew in that moment that Jewish Americans needed to take action to combat the rise of antisemitism and defend our values, which is why we established the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA).
Since that day, the threats to our democracy posed by right-wing extremism and Christian nationalism have grown in Donald Trump’s second term.
