Donald Trump scapegoats the Jewish people
We’re not historians, but we know enough to know that when leaders start blaming “the Jewish people” for anything – let alone losses – it’s not good. The scapegoating of Jews has happened for centuries by antisemites, and the words of Donald Trump last night were no exception. In a speech on “antisemitism,” Donald Trump went full antisemite and preemptively blamed “the Jewish people” for his potential election loss in November. This sends a dangerous message to antisemitic extremists in the United States who want to harm the Jewish people.
But that’s not all. Once again, Trump implored any Jewish Democrat to get their head examined. He threatened Israel’s future, predicting it will be “eradicated” and “obliterated” in “two to three years” if he’s not elected. And he blamed all Jews for a potential election loss. For the first time, he wasn’t distinguishing us by party. This kind of antisemitic rhetoric is incredibly dangerous – we’ve seen such scapegoating of Jews lead to violence before, and we must ensure it never happens again.
But that’s not all that happened this week. Last night, Vice President Harris conveyed a message of hope, joy, and unity during Oprah’s “Unite for America” event, which JDCA attended as a partner organization. If you looked closely, you may have seen our “Doug for First Mensch” T-shirt in the audience.
Last night was important because we know it’s valuable to hear from the candidates in their own words. For 90 minutes, you could listen to Donald Trump’s virulent hate and threats, AND for another 90 minutes, you could listen to Kamala Harris’s promise of a brighter future. The contrast could not have been more painfully clear.
Also yesterday, JDCA launched an updated 30-second ad featuring Kamala Harris in her own words on Israel and antisemitism, about which she’s been very clear.
Watch the ad now and share it with those who need to see it.
That wasn’t the only ad we launched this week. JDCA also launched three statewide ads targeting Senate races in Arizona, Michigan, and Nevada. We know the candidates in these races – Rep. Gallego, Rep. Slotkin, and Sen. Rosen – share our values, and we’re working hard to make sure Jewish voters in these states know as well.
Watch now and make sure as many voters as possible see these ads:
Watch our ad supporting Ruben Gallego in Arizona and donate to defeat Kari Lake, an election denier.
Watch our ad supporting Elissa Slotkin in Michigan and donate to keep this crucial seat blue.
Keep the momentum from this week going and join JDCA and Governor Kathy Hochul in a conversation about the Jewish vote on Wednesday, September 25, at 7:00 p.m. ET. The event is taking place at the Temple Emanu-El Streicker Center in New York City, so if you live in the surrounding area, we hope you’ll join us for this free event in person. We also encourage you to attend virtually.
