Defend Democracy on the 4th of July
As we enter Shabbat and the Fourth of July holiday weekend, Jewish Dems are reflecting on what has been a difficult few weeks. The far-right majority on the Supreme Court stripped away the Constitutional right to access abortion and made it harder for states to address gun violence and combat climate change. Cassidy Hutchinson’s testimony to the January 6 Committee revealed extremely disturbing details about Donald Trump and Republicans’ deep involvement in the deadly insurrection and attempted coup. Together, the Court’s rulings and the January 6th hearings underscored that elections have consequences and our fundamental rights and future as a democracy are on the ballot in November. We must do all we can to elect more Democrats.
Yesterday, Jewish Dems hosted experts and activists for our special Community Conversation on Abortion Justice. It was an inspiring discussion and a critical reminder that — as renowned legal expert Dahlia Lithwick said — the message of this Fourth of July is that “we all now have to do the democracy reform work.” Our rights and democracy have been threatened, and we must work to defend them in advance of the midterm elections. This Fourth of July weekend, we encourage you to watch and share the recording of this powerful event and take action with JDCA.
Together, we will elect Democrats who will protect abortion rights and defend our democracy. We encourage you to join your JDCA state chapter to help us get out the vote for Democrats through phone banking and other organizing efforts.
Your partnership has been critical to growing our movement of Jewish Dems and electing those who share our values, and we’ve never needed your help more than in these critical midterm elections. As we approach November, we thank you for your efforts and support of JDCA.
Wishing you a Shabbat Shalom and happy Fourth of July,
Shabbat Shalom,
Hon. Ron Klein,
Board Chair, Jewish Democratic Council of America
