COMMUNITY DISCUSSION: Denying Hamas’s Sexual Violence Against Israelis Harms All Women

January 4, 2024

Dear Friends,

We are wishing you health, happiness, and Democratic victories in this new year.  As the new year begins, the darkness of October 7 still casts a long shadow for Israel and the Jewish community. Despite this ongoing crisis, we have hope for this year because we are already hard at work organizing and advocating to defend our Jewish and Democratic values in 2024.

Continuing our community conversation series, please join us Wednesday, January 10, at 9:00 AM PT/12:00 PM ET for our next JDCA event to discuss Hamas’s sexual violence and how the subsequent silence from international organizations hurts women around the world.

Our panel includes award-winning journalist, author, and Senior Editor at Slate Dahlia Lithwick; District Attorney for Westchester County, NY, and former federal prosecutor, Southern District of New York (SDNY) Mimi Rocah; and author, MSNBC contributor, and opinion columnist at the  Washington Post Jen Rubin.

Ms. Lithwick and Ms. Rocah – along with Tamara Sepper, Jennifer Taub, Joyce White Vance, and JDCA New Leadership Council Member Julie Zebrak – recently penned an op-ed in Slate discussing how “The World’s Feminists Need to Show Up for Israeli Victims.” They will continue this discussion with the JDCA community, considering the implications for all women, and we encourage you to join us.

Washington Post opinion columnist Jen Rubin recently hosted me on her podcast, Jen Rubin’s Green Room, to discuss — among other issues — the crisis in Israel and political implications at home. Give it a listen.

We hope you join us on Wednesday, January 10 at noon ET for our next community conversation. RSVP here, and again, wishing you a happy, healthy, and BLUE new year.

Sincerely,

Halie Soifer
CEO, Jewish Democratic Council of America
