Access to Healthcare is a Jewish Value
Ensuring access to healthcare is a Jewish value. That’s why 88% of Jewish voters oppose cutting funding for Medicaid, and access to healthcare continues to be a top priority for Jewish voters.
Sixty years ago yesterday, Democratic President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Medicare and Medicaid Act into law. With the stroke of a pen, Democrats ensured healthcare access for millions of people. These programs have supported hospitals, decreased poverty, and provided a safety net for all. Americans are better off because Democrats fought for and established Medicare and Medicaid.
Sixty years later, with another stroke of a pen, Donald Trump and the Republican-controlled Congress took a sledgehammer to Medicaid. The Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill will strip healthcare from nearly 17 million Americans and raise healthcare costs for millions more. In the few weeks since Trump signed the bill into law, rural hospitals are already being forced to close their doors, and Americans are being turned away from receiving critical care.
Healthcare remains a top issue for Jewish Americans, and we’re ready to fight back against Trump and Republicans’ cruel cuts to healthcare. Tell your members of Congress to defend Medicare and Medicaid, and keep reading for “good news” in the fight to save healthcare for millions of people.
Here’s the good news: While our healthcare system is already feeling the impacts of Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill, the most damaging provisions – and the biggest cuts – don’t kick in until 2027. We have the power to make a difference, hold our members of Congress accountable, and block some of the worst cuts before they take effect – but only if Democrats win in the 2026 midterms
This work starts with you. As we mark 60 years of Medicare and Medicaid, join us in urging your members of Congress to defend healthcare access and reverse Republicans’ cruel Medicaid cuts.
All Americans deserve access to quality, affordable healthcare. Healthcare access is a Jewish value – and we’re going to defend it.
In solidarity,
Sam Crystal
