Call Congress: Assert Your Authority

Donald Trump and Elon Musk have usurped Congress and illegally seized power of important arms of our government.

Trump has frozen federal grants and loans, shuttered an important federal agency, and handed over our personal data to a private citizen, Elon Musk, who now controls the federal checkbook. This is a violation of the Constitution and checks and balances on the president, which rests with Congress.

This isn’t politics as usual. What Trump and Musk are doing can be described as nothing less than a coup. Only members of Congress have the power to stop it, and they work for you.

There are two important ways you can urge your members of Congress to act:

CALL CONGRESS: Members of Congress, including Senate Democrats, have tools at their disposal to force Trump and Musk to comply. They can use procedural mechanisms to grind Trump’s agenda to a halt until he complies with the Constitution. It’s time for them to use every tactic available.

Call your members of Congress today and demand that they use every tool at their disposal to stop Trump and Musk’s illegal power grab. It makes a difference – we have heard from members of Congress that the flood of calls and letters may compel them to act.

Here’s how to call your representatives:

1. Find the office numbers for your member of Congress and senators. Go to this link and type in your address. If you know the names of your representative and senators, call (202) 224-3121 and ask for their offices.

2. Call their office and read this script:

Hello, I am [First Name], I am a constituent living in [city/town], and my zip code is [zip code]. I am calling to demand that the [Senate/House] uses all the tools at their disposal to stop Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s illegal power grab. 

Trump’s actions are blatantly unconstitutional and a threat to my personal and financial security, as well as our national security. 

I urge you to do everything in your power to fight back against Trump’s executive branch coup using all procedural mechanisms in Congress until these moves are reversed. It’s time for Congress to reassert its authority and serve as a check on the executive branch.

WRITE TO YOUR ELECTED OFFICIALS: If you haven’t yet, write to your members today demanding that Congress assert authority over Donald Trump and Elon Musk.
