The truth about the Vice President’s position on Israel

The Republican campaign of lies and disinformation is well underway in this campaign, and – similar to past elections – they are using Israel as a political wedge issue. Today, they are spreading the flat-out lie that Vice President Harris supports an arms embargo against Israel.

The Vice President has a long history of support for Israel’s security and U.S. military aid to Israel, including helping to procure $15 billion in U.S. security assistance for aid to Israel since October 7, which Republicans – including Senator JD Vance – unnecessarily delayed. A statement today issued by the Vice President’s National Security Advisor stated: “She will always work to ensure Israel is able to defend itself against Iran and Iran-backed terrorist groups. She does not support an arms embargo on Israel.” Full stop. Let’s focus on the facts.

Since October 7, she has been deeply engaged with Israeli officials as part of the Administration’s support for Israel as it works to eliminate the threat of Hamas. She has repeatedly condemned Hamas’ brutal attack on October 7 and expressed support for Israel’s right to defend itself.

Alongside President Biden, she has been working to end this war in a way that ensures Israel’s security and the release of all hostages. She has met with families of Americans held hostage and met with former hostages, including in June when she met with a former Israeli hostage who survived sexual assault in captivity and hosted an event that brought to light the horrific sexual violence perpetrated by Hamas.
