Biden and Dems Stepping up for Jewish Americans
Dear Friends,
In the aftermath of the worst single-day massacre of Jewish people since the Holocaust, we have found comfort in community, activism, and leadership. We’re grateful for the JDCA community, which has gathered each Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. ET / 9:00 a.m. PT for virtual briefings with experts and elected officials. We’re grateful for the opportunity to take action, calling on the Senate to confirm ambassadorial nominee Jack Lew, and urging Congress to fulfill the President’s request for aid for Israel. And we’re grateful for the leadership of President Biden and Democratic leaders, who have been steadfast in their support of Israel and American Jews.
Stay engaged and informed as we support Israel at this difficult time and confront antisemitism at home. Please join us tomorrow, Wednesday, October 25 at 12:00 p.m. ET / 9:00 a.m. PT to hear about these issues from three congressional leaders, Senator Jacky Rosen, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and Rep. Kathy Manning at our “Emergency Briefing: Israel at War.”
Jewish Americans continue to face rising antisemitism. As President Biden said last week, “We can’t stand by and stand silent when this happens. We must, without equivocation, denounce antisemitism.” President Biden’s National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism demonstrates his leadership on this issue, and we’re grateful.
We are all deeply saddened by the death of Samantha Woll, an extraordinary Detroit Jewish community leader and synagogue president who participated in JDCA’s 2022 and 2023 Weeks of Action. While there is no evidence that this was a hate crime, her unconscionable murder comes at a time of heightened anxiety and pain for us all. We hold Samantha’s family and the entire Detroit Jewish community in our prayers. May her memory be for a blessing.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership with JDCA. We hope to see you on Wednesday for our “Emergency Briefing: Israel at War.”
Warmly,
Halie Soifer
CEO, Jewish Democratic Council of America
