JDCA meets with Israel’s ambassador to the U.N., Danny Danon

February 8, 2018

On Wednesday, the chair and several board members of the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) hosted Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, for lunch and a wide-ranging conversation about the United Nations, Israel-U.S. relations, particularly views by different constituencies of the Democratic Party about the Prime Minister, certain government policies, and the U.S. government’s role in Middle East policy.

The frank and open discussion touched on his successes and continued challenges in the United Nations, some of the successes that he has been building at the U.N. through his relationship with previous U.S. Ambassador Samantha Powers, and current U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley. He discussed relations, both public and behind the scenes between Israel and the Palestinians, the complicated issue of pluralism in Israel and most of all, the ambassador’s oft stated desire to see that U.S. political support for Israel be bipartisan.

“We need the entire Jewish community united behind Israel. Period.” he said. “We cannot let issues concerning Israel become partisan issues. Israel is one of the only issues to have unified support in Congress.”

Here at JDCA, we agree and make that a reality through our work.
