244 Years of Independence – We Can’t Risk Another Four of Trump
As we approach Fourth of July, we are struck by how different this year feels. While 244 years of America’s independence is certainly an achievement, it’s hard to celebrate when so many are hurting from the devastating impact of COVID-19, racial injustice, and other challenges that have been exacerbated by the incompetence, bigotry and recklessness of President Trump.
This week, we responded when Donald Trump amplified calls for “white power” and praised the bigots chanting as “great people” on Twitter. We also expressed deep concern about the fact that Trump is campaigning with Nazi symbols. The President of the United States himself has become a symbol of hate, and his incendiary messages are no longer just dog whistles – there is a bullhorn of bigotry emanating from the White House.
We don’t have to accept it and we refuse to lose hope. Our country has always been great, and it’s worth fighting for. That’s why, this Fourth of July, we’re reaffirming our commitment to defeating Donald Trump and electing Joe Biden and other Democrats who share our values in November.
