Jewish Dems Applaud DNC for Condemning Antisemitism & Rejecting Israel Arms Embargo Resolution
WASHINGTON – After the DNC Resolutions Committee passed a resolution condemning the rise of antisemitism and overwhelmingly rejected a resolution calling for an arms embargo on Israel that failed to condemn Hamas, Halie Soifer, CEO of the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA), released the following statement:
“Today, the DNC Resolutions Committee made an important statement against the rise of antisemitism and rejected a divisive measure calling for an arms embargo on Israel. JDCA advocated for the Resolutions Committee to reject the anti-Israel resolution, and we were glad to see it defeated. As the newly formed DNC task force convenes, at the request of Chair Martin, JDCA will strongly advocate for continued support of Israel’s security, an end to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and support for an eventual and essential two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. We will insist that any statement from the Democratic Party on the U.S.-Israel relationship continues to reflect the values of our community, over 70% of whom support Democrats.
“As Jewish Americans face rising antisemitic violence, we applaud the DNC Resolutions Committee’s approval of a resolution strongly condemning the antisemitism crisis that has ‘manifested across the political spectrum.’ This resolution underscores the danger of President Trump’s repeated use of antisemitic tropes and alignment with right-wing extremists and conspiracy theorists.
“Most Jewish Americans and Democrats strongly support an immediate release of the hostages, a surge of humanitarian aid into Gaza, and believe Hamas has no future in Gaza. The resolution that passed reflects these priorities, and we look forward to supporting the work of the Chairman’s task force to consider developments pertaining to Israel and Gaza.”
