Jewish Dems Celebrate Democratic Wins in VA, NJ, and PA

November 4, 2025

WASHINGTON – In response to tonight’s election results, including the confirmed victories of Governors-elect Mikie Sherrill (NJ) and Abigail Spanberger (VA) and the successful retention of three Democratic Pennsylvania Supreme Court justices, Halie Soifer, CEO of the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA), released the following statement:

“Tonight, the American people secured important wins against Trump’s attacks on our freedoms and democracy, and Jewish voters made these victories possible. As the national voice of Jewish Democrats, JDCA has been – and will continue to be – committed to mobilizing our community in support of candidates who share our values.

“Throughout their careers in public service, Mikie Sherrill and Abigail Spanberger have defended our freedoms, protected democracy and fundamental rights, and stood up against dangerous extremism. We were proud to support their successful gubernatorial campaigns by engaging Jewish voters through grassroots efforts in New Jersey and Virginia, helping ensure their victory by contacting 50,000 voters in both states. In addition, JDCA PAC targeted Jewish voters in New Jersey and Virginia with digital ads that made the case for electing Governors-elect Sherrill and Spanberger, reaching voters more than two million times.

“JDCA also supported retention of Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justices Christine Donohue, Kevin Dougherty, and David Wecht, cementing a bulwark against Trump’s attacks on democracy and freedom in a critical swing state. JDCA held an event with all three justices in the week prior to the election, giving Jewish Pennsylvanians the chance to hear directly from the candidates.

“New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani also won decisively tonight, and we recognize the enthusiasm behind his affordability agenda, including among some Jewish New Yorkers. We are clear-eyed about where we strongly disagree with Mr. Mamdani, including on policy toward Israel. We look forward to continuing to have an open, constructive dialogue with the Mayor-elect and ensuring that Jewish New Yorkers are safe and secure amid the rise of antisemitism.

“As we now turn our attention to the critical 2026 midterm elections, Jewish Americans are ready to build on tonight’s victories and make positive change for our future in support of Democrats.”
