Jewish Democrats Launch Week of Action on Capitol Hill

June 14, 2021

WASHINGTON — Building on its grassroots advocacy successes during the 2020 election cycle, the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) is bringing together nearly 600 activists from across the country to virtually share their voices and their values with members of Congress during its Week of Action, starting on June 15.

This week, Jewish Dems will hold meetings with 80 members of Congress from 15 states, representing JDCA’s 14 state chapters. The activists include members of JDCA’s National Board, Next Generation Leadership Council, JDCA state chapter leaders, and hundreds of Jewish Democratic activists. They’ll be advocating on the policy priorities of Jewish Democrats, including:

  • Combating antisemitism, domestic terrorism, and white supremacy;
  • Protecting our democracy and voting rights with the passage of the For the People Act;
  • Israel’s security and right to self-defense, and U.S. assistance to Israel and the Palestinians; and
  • Preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons via diplomatic efforts to re-enter the JCPOA.

“JDCA is the only national organization representing Jewish Democrats, combining Jewish values with Democratic political advocacy, and we are thrilled to launch our first Week of Action. We’re proud to be able to connect hundreds of Jewish Dems from across the country with their members of Congress, to engage in high-level meetings with key policymakers,” said Halie Soifer, CEO of JDCA.

“After two election cycles, JDCA has proven its importance and effectiveness, and our Week of Action is the next stage of our expanded reach, impact and scope. During our Week of Action, JDCA activists will take their values and voices to Capitol Hill, advocating for key issues that matter to Jewish Democrats. I participated in many of these types of meetings when I was in Congress, and can attest that they help build long term personal relationships with members and are effective in supplying valuable information on important policy issues,” said former Rep. Ron Klein, Chair of JDCA.

In the 2020 election, JDCA endorsed 121 candidates and ran 500 individual digital ad campaigns for 73 candidates receiving more than 45 million views. More than 4,400 activists joined JDCA’s 250+ campaign events, and volunteers connected with 1.7 million Jewish voters in 14 key states.
