Pete Hegseth Needs To Go
Pete Hegseth may have committed a war crime. The Washington Post reported that Hegseth gave explicit orders to a Special Operations commander to “kill them all” during a military strike on a vessel allegedly trafficking drugs near Venezuela, and after the first strike reportedly left two people still clinging to wreckage, another strike was ordered to kill those survivors.
If these reports are true, Pete Hegseth may have overseen the illegal extrajudicial killings of 11 people, including shipwreck survivors, which is prohibited under U.S. and international law and is an example of what not to do in the Department of Defense’s own manual on the law of war.
Pete Hegseth also violated military regulations by sharing classified war plans on an unclassified messaging system. Today, the Pentagon’s Inspector General released a report that concluded Hegseth could have endangered the lives of American troops by using the private messaging app Signal to discuss plans for U.S. airstrikes in Yemen.
We’ve seen time and time again that Hegseth is utterly unqualified to serve as Secretary of Defense, and it’s time for him to go. Tell your members of Congress today that Pete Hegseth must step down or be removed as Secretary of Defense.
