JDCA Slams Supreme Court Decision Upholding Trump’s Muslim Ban

June 26, 2018

Halie Soifer, executive director of the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA), issued the following statement today following the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the Trump administration’s Muslim ban:

“Today’s ruling by the Supreme Court is an aberration and betrayal of American values. As Jewish Americans, we know all too well the horrific consequences of closing doors to those in need and discriminating against people based on religion, race, and ethnic background. President Trump’s ban on refugees and others from Muslim-majority countries is discrimination, plain and simple, based on the false pretense of national security. The Trump administration has provided no evidence that individuals from these banned countries have ever threatened the safety of Americans, nor have individuals from any of these countries killed an American on U.S. soil. Finally, the 5-4 ruling of the Supreme Court reminds us that Republicans in Congress refused to grant President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee a vote for nearly a year. The @GOP stole a critical Supreme Court seat in 2016, and will face the consequences of their actions at the polls in November. #NoMuslimBanEver. #Vote,”
