JDCA praises Leader Pelosi speech defending Dreamers

February 7, 2018

On February 7, 2018, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi spoke on the House floor for over eight hours, a House record, in protest of a short-term funding bill that does not include adequate protections for Dreamers. The Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) commends House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi for her display of leadership in fighting for the young immigrants who were brought to America as children.

American Jews know and understand all too well the horrors of excessive immigration restrictions, and JDCA will continue to urge Congress to enact protections for Dreamers. We offer Speaker Pelosi our praise of ‘yasher koach’ for her strength and courage to fight for Dreamers.

Other Democrats have voiced their support for Leader Pelosi’s record breaking speech:

DNC Chair Tom Perez: “Nancy Pelosi has been holding the floor for close to 8 hours telling Dreamers’ stories and asking the GOP to stop wasting time and bring up the #DreamActNow. Keep going, we’ve got your back!”

Senator Dianne Feinstein: “Leader Nancy Pelosi has held the House floor for 7 hours to advocate for a path to citizenship for Dreamers. Nancy knows how important it is to get this done because California is home to more Dreamers than any other state. Go Nancy!”

Senator Patty Murray: “DREAMers are our friends, neighbors, classmates, caregivers, teachers, and so much more. Thank you @NancyPelosi for standing strong for over 8 hours and calling on Republican leaders to work with Democrats to pass the #DreamActNow

Representative Joe Kennedy III: “We cannot accept the indifference and indignity our Republican colleagues continue to show #Dreamers. Thank you @NancyPelosi for showing us all what it means to be a true public servant and leader.”

Representative Jackie Speier: She spoke for 8 hours and 5 minutes in 4 inch heels because #DACADreamers kids are worth it!

Representative Luis Gutierrez: “Good for her. I’m happy she’s stepping up. I hope now she keeps the fight going. Speeches are great…But more important is to maintain your principle.”

California Lt. Governor Gavin Newsome: “THIS is what leadership looks like. Thank you.”
