JDCA Condemns Anti-Semitic Robocall in Florida

October 24, 2018

MIAMI, FL – On Tuesday, the white supremacist hate group The Road To Power commissioned a racist and anti-Semitic robocall in Florida targeting voters of Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Andrew Gillum. In response to these developments, Ron Klein, Chair of the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA), released the following statement:

“This deeply disturbing robocall is just the latest incident in a pattern of Republican candidates and their supporters condoning and espousing racist, anti-Semitic, and bigoted speech. The robocall targeting Democrats in Florida featured explicit attacks on Jews and anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, as well as Ron DeSantis’ statement that Floridians should not ‘monkey this up’ by voting for Andrew Gillum.

When Republicans embrace racist dog whistles and conspiracy theories that have historically been used to target Jews and communities of color, they are contributing to rising hatred and divisions in our country along racial and religious lines. By equivocating in condemning Nazis and identifying himself as a “nationalist” – which has been used to describe white supremacy movements for decades – President Trump has legitimized and emboldened these hateful ideologies.

Today, we call on voters to reject the hatred perpetuated by Republicans, including Ron DeSantis and President Trump, and vote for change on November 6.”
