Carnage and Chaos: Jan 6 Hearing Highlights Trump’s Coup

Last night’s House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack hearing demonstrated that Donald Trump orchestrated the January 6 insurrection and attempted coup. The avalanche of credible witness testimony, including from former Attorney General William Barr and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley, confirms that Trump’s effort to stop the peaceful transfer of power with a deadly attack on the Capitol was the result of a well-planned partnership between a disgruntled losing president, his Republican enablers in the White House and Congress, and extremist hate groups.

The painful testimony and images from January 6th demonstrate the white supremacy, racism, and antisemitism that underpinned the insurrection. As we heard from U.S. Capitol Police Officer Caroline Edwards, the horror experienced that day “was carnage, it was chaos…it was hours of hand-to-hand combat” perpetrated by domestic terrorists and extremists incited by the former president.

We remain deeply concerned about the ongoing and persistent Republican attacks on our democracy, and the lack of accountability for Trump and his enablers responsible for the insurrection. That is why JDCA is continuing to do everything we can to mobilize Jewish voters in key swing states in order to defend our democracy, advance our values, and protect the integrity of future elections.
