A Week of Wins

August 5, 2022

It’s been a good week in the fight for our Jewish and Democratic values, and a week of wins for the Biden administration and Democrats in Congress.

Today’s jobs report indicates that unemployment is at a 50-year low, at 3.5%, and 528,000 jobs were added last month. This news comes as President Biden and Senate Democrats are preparing to pass the Inflation Reduction Act this weekend, which will help to reduce inflation and the deficit, lower the cost of prescription drugs, and reduce carbon emissions to defend against climate change.

Also this week, Democrats led passage of the PACT Act to expand healthcare coverage for veterans, a bipartisan majority of Kansans voted to defend abortion rights, House Democrats reauthorized the assault weapons ban, and President Biden ordered a military strike killing the leader of Al-Qaeda and successor of Osama bin Laden. Now that’s what we call a week of wins — let’s ensure it continues.

Despite the slimmest congressional majority in modern American history, Democrats led by President Biden are delivering for the American people. Imagine how much more Democrats can accomplish by expanding their Senate majority this November and holding the majority in the House. We know that the Jewish electorate can deliver victory for Democrats in close races and it is up to us to get out the Jewish vote. Share this email and spread the word on how Democrats are delivering for Americans, and help us get out the vote for Dems in the midterms.

A WEEK OF WINS RECAP

Inflation Reduction Act: This historic bill will reduce the impact of inflation, lower healthcare costs, especially for prescription drugs, and make the largest investment in combating climate change in U.S. history. This progress will be achieved by closing tax loopholes and ensuring the wealthiest corporations pay their fair share – all without raising taxes on any family making less than $400,000.

Unemployment Down to 3.5%: The job market added a staggering 528,000 jobs in July. Under President Biden’s leadership, our economy has reached a 50-year low in unemployment.

Kansas Protects Abortion Rights: From rural Kansas to the suburbs and cities, voters across party lines showed up to vote and rejected the GOP’s assault on reproductive freedom. The victory in Kansas teaches us two lessons for this November: Voters do not support the Republican Party’s extreme stance on abortion, and Americans are highly motivated to hold the Republican Party accountable at the polls. House Dems Pass Assault Weapons Ban: Last Friday, House Democrats led the passage of a bill to renew the assault weapons ban. These weapons of war are terrorizing our communities, but Republicans are refusing to act in the Senate. Join us in calling on the Senate to reinstate the assault weapons ban.

Dems Pass the PACT Act: After Republicans shamelessly filibustered and politicized healthcare for U.S. veterans, Democratic leadership ensured passage of the PACT Act to expand coverage to those exposed to toxic chemicals while serving our country.

Ensuring National Security: President Biden’s decision to order the successful strike on Al-Qaeda leader and 9/11 plotter Ayman al-Zawahiri was not just a national security imperative, it was a “vindication of Biden’s decision to leave Afghanistan and a demonstration of the effectiveness of Biden’s counterterrorism strategy.” Read more from David Rothkopf about how President Biden is keeping America safe.

Thank you for your continued support of JDCA and our work to elect Democrats who share our values. Let’s ensure this week of wins continues well into the future.
